  1. Sept 14: Yesterday we turned on the furnace. Always interesting for new kitties. Kittens took it in stride….but Mimi freaked. She went through the house growling, then hid under the couch. A while after the blower went off she came out…..of course then the blower came on again!

    1. Poor Mimi, I guess timing isn’t one of her strong points?

  2. ai addid three fotos tew teh foster album. thay ar just ober fore munfs awld. sew three kittens and mama still hear. kan yu sents teh panik in mai riting?

  4. Sept 19:
    Please pray and/or send beems of luck to me.
    The neighbor lady found a little kitten under her shed. Casey brought it over. (The husband hates cats and was NOT going to have it around-I won’t go into any more detail). I’ve got most of the flea dirt off it. It is about 4 weeks old. Very tiny fuzzy gray tiger with attitude and playful, adjusted amazingly quickly to circumstances-well that is why some survive. NOT happy about being shut in a big carrier with a baby litterbox! Neighbor lady paid for a can of formula. I’ll post a couple of pictures in the foster file maybe tomorrow. I can’t do anything requiring a brain for the rest of today. AARGH. PS You should have heard Susie hiss at it!

    1. Oh and it was such a cold night! Sending luck and warm beams!

      1. Thanks Toona! Did you get frost last night? It passed us by after Mr. C. put flowers in the garage and covered stuff.

        1. I don’t know – I didn’t look ;)

          I still smile when I think about our visit. Hopefully there will be another!

          1. It was a fun day. Stop any time. We are usually home!

  5. Sept 20: Thanks for your beams and prayers! It worked! The local (no-kill) animal shelter took her. When we left she was getting a bath and would be put in with a litter of kittens the same age. Whew! My little monster fosters were all hissy and growlie over this tiny little fluffball!

  6. Sept 23: OK I vowed to only write positive happy make-people-want-to-adopt postings here but….please say some prayers or send beams of positivity our way as Ronnie started walking wierd yesterday-he’s all crabbed-like with his back legs. Still eating and playing. $150 at the vet today, no temp, normal Xrays, can’t figure out why. Came home with meloxicam to reduce inflammation and strict orders to keep him isolated and quiet. Well, last night we isolated him in the old foster room and he cried and cried and hung off the doorknob and at some point he managed to open the door. (We wanted to see if he was using the litter box.) Fortunately I did observe a “number one” right before we left for the vets. So happy thoughts requested! Thanks and sorry if this bummed you out!!!

    1. Hope it is nothing serious – could just have bruised or twisted something that wouldn’t show on X-ray, Fingers crossed for all.

      1. thanks anni! I’m hoping that is it.

  7. Sept 24: Ronnie is a little better today. Not quite so crab-like on the rear legs. His brother can’t understand why I keep pulling him off his brother and finding him something else to do!

    1. Better is good!!!!!!!! Keep it up, Ronnie!!!!!!

      1. Ronnie is not walking with his back legs bent today but with his back bowed. Not sure this is progress…….

        1. Urm… yeah, that’s odd… but as long as the basic functions are all still working, then watch him and cross your fingers. Cats can pull out of some of the craziest things. My old guy Nermal, long crosst the Bridge, when he was, hm, maybe 8 or so: we were lying down reading (well, I was reading, he was snoozing beside me), he got up and fell over. Unflappable cat started crying he was so scared and confused. Vet never figured out what happened. I left him there overnight one night, they wanted to keep him longer, I insisted on taking him home. Mattress on the floor in a small bare room (with windows), low barrier across the doorway, just him and me for several days with friends bringing me food – bathroom was next door, at least. Had to help him stay standing in the litter box and help him reach food, so I was catnapping on and off (only working a little at the time, and called in sick for even that). I was terrified he was going to die on me. But… a week later, he was walking again, if a bit shakily, and another week you’d never know anything had happened.

          They’re incredibly resilient and adaptable. As long as he’s safe and warm with food and all, and as long as all his essential systems are online, he may just bounce past this and get back to walking normally and we can all wonder forever what on earth happened. {{{{{Mary}}}}}

          1. {{{{{{Prysma}}}}}}
            Kittehs are amazin’.
            I just scared the bejeezes out of Johnny- :oops: he’d never seen me vacuum! :oops:

          2. That was some siege with Nermal. Lucky kitty to have you for a human.

            1. Nermal was a very special cat, who taught me an immense amount. When I first moved out on my own, it was just him and me. I think I had more of a friendship of equals with him than I ever have with another cat, I’m always mom to them instead. I think I was the lucky one.

              Anyway. They’re sooooo tough and so good at bouncing back (and doing it without massive PTSD!), I can understand about them having nine lives. To me, that helps when they’re having a rough time and I can’t make it go away.

  8. Sept 26: Fosters-Ronnie still walking with bowed-up back. Playing some but no crazy hijinks that I have to put the kibosh on.
    Knee-Drove for first time to town to meet a friend for lunch. She was late….she went to the wrong restaurant!!!! Back to work Monday. I should be more excited I guess…..

    1. Still got love and beems coming your way. He’s not showing any signs of pain when you touch him anywhere, right? Including his belly? And he’s still peeing and pooping and eating? And the x-ray found nothing like disc damage… I’ve been wracking my brains trying to think of anything remotely like this I’ve even heard of and I’m coming up blank.

      1. The vet drew a blank too just gave us the Meloxicam in case there was a spinal cord injury to reduce inflammation. I’m not sure about the pooping but he’s eating and peeing. Xrays showed nothing. She felt down his spine disc by disc. It is a mystery. I think he injured himself somehow, probably falling off the top level of the cat tree/tower/whatever it is called because I’ve seen him and mama wrestling up there and it’s really too small for that! I’m going to give him some hairball stuff for the pooping just in case. He’s sleeping with me on the recliner right now. Mr C had to lift him there, he can get on chairs but won’t try to jump up here (I’d rather he didn’t anyways!). Thanks for continuing help with this little guy!

    2. Aren’t thayre, like, two restaurants in yore town?

      Glad yore feeling betturr, sorry abowt werk!

      1. You are correct Toona, two restaurants! Pretty funny, no?

  9. 9/28: Little guy still walking funny but a little better. He doesn’t do any roughhousing like his brother but lays on a blanket and watches. Played gently with his sister for a while today. Still eating, etc. Thanks for all who are concerned about my little Ronnie.

    1. Good news.

      He’s still growing like crazy so it’s a possibly a trapped nerve. The NSAIDs should help any inflammation and hopefully it’ll allow everything to eventually slip back to where it should be.

      <————————————————–
      <————————————————–

      1. Oh I hope so! He’s such a good boy even if not mama’s baby anymore like the other two. He’s an independent guy already! I think he is a teeny bit better today. Your diagnosis sounds really logical, I’ll keep up with the Meloxicam. One tablet for me, one liquid dose for him. :)

        1. I hope so too. I’m not a vet so all I can do is guess based on what I’ve picked up from working in a closely related field.

  10. Sept 29: Leg pretty good. I’ve misplaced my cane so have been walking around the house without it…..back to work today. I like my job, I truly do but boy is it hard to go back to work! I guess I’ll be fine once I get there! I have a few more PT sessions left before insurance cuts me off but I really only need a few more. The cute PT student had me walk (very very slowly) on the treadmill last session.

  16. Oct 10: No call from vet so far. Ronnie is still improved. I don’t get why but am sure happy. I haven’t been able to sleep lately so some nights end up in the recliner. This morning he was sleeping with me! Day three of the tiniest 1/2 pill you ever saw. He’s wise already and Casey had to resort to some trickery today!

She wanted us to take a video of him or bring him in so we took a video over this morning. She was amazed! She watched it over and over. She asked for a copy of it to post.

  19. Oct 20: Well Friday we got a big surprise with our littlol baby girl, Susie. She’s……well…….let us just say we have her confined in Casey’s bedroom with another female cat. She’s only 5 1/2 months old! And so tiny! Anyways her cries if she’s not got one of us holding her so we take turns. Casey’s bedroom/computer room is big and big windows and also Millie lives in there. Millie is kinda grumpy but tolerating the company. (she’s the long-haired calico). So all 3 kittens have an appointment with the V-E-T for their surgeries but not till November 25 .

    1. 5 1/2 months is bordering on the early side but everything seems to be maturing faster these days (or I’m just getting old). The poor mite must be so very confused.

      1. hur seams tew bee over it nao. hur waz confuzed. hur waz awlso confuzing hur brudders! hur is happie tew bee awt uf teh ruum uf confynemint!

    2. Late November am gonna feel lyk a long time away, if her starting tu come into heat…

      But at least Ronnie’s okay and will be there wif teh others to has it done!!!!!

      1. I know, I’m hoping since she’s so young maybe we’ll have a longer time between.
        *looking hopeful*

        1. I hope so… sounds like it lasted less time than it normally would have, too.

          PeeEss, I know you be crazy-bizzy, but make sure you swing back by Cheezland for teh next post, hm? {{{mary}}}

    Susie reached out with a claw and yoinked a whole piece of chees out, grabbed in her mouth and was off and running!

    1. Tee-hee! The little bandit! :lol:

  22. Oct 23: Johnny loves to chase wadded up Tootsie Pop wrappers. He also loves to bat bat bat around Tootsie Pops. I left a package where he could reach it and woke up to Tootsie Pops all over the living room floor!

  23. Oct 29: Gonna get this archived soon but not right now
    Susie is locked in Mr. C’s room AGAIN, good grief, this won’t be fixed till 11/25, I’m not going to make it!
    The pukey pink people liquid antibiotic for Ronnie is going to be changed. It will be the same antibiotic but there is a company that mixes it for critters and they will be calling us for the flavor that Ronnie would prefer: chicken or tuna. She (the Vet) wants him to have it because it crosses the blood/brain barrier better and will kill any bugs in his spinal cord.
    OMG!

    1. Hmmm didn’t mention that he had not completely recovered & the vet reported that the responses to the case that she posted on the Vets only website said treat him for a deep tissue infection. So 2 antibiotics twice a day for 20 days. He doesn’t mind the one from the vet but the pink one from the people pharmacy made him flip out accompainied by lots of pink drool all over the place. Cats-sometimes it ain’t pretty!
      PS He’s much better and acting like the old Ronnie again!

      1. PS I tasted the pink stuff-he was right-it was GROSS!

        1. Ai had teh saem trubblol wen Ai had 2 gib puddy sum uv dat wen him wuz a littlol kidlet – it wuz spozed 2 be bananananana flabr, but it smeld liek pleh! (him din’t liek nanas enniwai!)

      2. Can’t recall what it was I had to give one of the kids that got the same kind of reaction, the frothing and drooling, with absolutely frantic attempts at avoiding each dose… might have been AB’s for something. It was a ghastly thing to see. I don’t know why they bother flavouring meds the way they do for humans, even, they never ever taste like they’re claimed to. Let’s hope the new formula will be tolerable-tasting to kittehs, and that it’ll be worth it and chase any nasty bugs right out of his poor body!!!!

  24. Oct 30: Ronnie and his brother spent yesterday pulling books off the bookcase……Johnny also tore up Mr. Casey’s paperwork for prescription meds.
    Ronnie loves me again so I’m very happy about that. Mr. C. has to give him the meds tho so he’s the villain. I’m pretty sure Ronnie’s the one that is knocking the cat food bag and the dog biscuit box on the floor the last two nights looking for the cat treats……
    Johnny has grown into a beautiful long haired shiny-coated boy. He has very expressive sounds, mostly little grunts of unhappy or happy noises. Now if I could break him of the habit of biting my fingers in the middle of the night……
    Susie is still tiny, about 5 lbs. Looks smaller than her brothers but really not that far behind in weight. She always was and continues to be a pretty little girl.
    Mimi is so happy when I get home from work, she tears up the cat tower and rolls around so I can pet her all over. She’s so good, she never uses her claws when she’s all excited and I’m petting her.
    Susie’s unhappy being isolated with grumpy Millie (but I think Millie secretly likes the company),
    I took the last poster down advertising them…..guess this is a huge “Foster Fail”….PLEASE don’t tell my mom!
    So I’ve officially become a crazy cat lady but I love them all. Everybody gets along except Bitsy doesn’t like Mimi or Mimi’s children but sometimes she plays with the kittens (???).
    Johnny, Ronnie, Susie & Mimi are officially adopted here with Annie, Sherman, Millie, Seamus, Steve, Spanky & Bitsy. I’ve asked Prysma to close out the Foster page. She’s going to archive it. Wish us luck and good health so we can continue to support this horde (hoard???) and the dogs (Tess and Molly). And the 2 goats, and all the chickens!
    I hope you enjoyed the story as much as I did writing it! Hugs & Hedbonks to all my Cheezfriends! xxxoooo

    1. Yaay! Furebber hoam!!! :D

    2. Happy news indeed! Congrats to all. A very big job, well done (and still underway, of course). Best wishes and good-health beams from the Beemerator (***beam, beam***) for all the critters and their human minions aifinkso!!

    3. Best of fun,health, and happiness for your new extended blended family!

  26. 11/1: One more update-took Ronnie for an emergency visit today at a different vets. It is a group that has 3 clinics. Lo and behold the vet working turned out to be a really great man that used to come to our place for the llamas! He did a very thorough check of Ronnie-he sat on the floor and listened to the kitten’s history and watched him. Then a physical check. He found nothing new wrong-I freaked because Ronnie had been gagging and hiccupping and swallowing repeatedly all night and morning today-more than usual for a hairball. He didn’t think it was anything but a hairball-of course the kitten didn’t do the whole routine for him-like a car not acting up in front of a repairman. Anyways he seems to be doing it less. I think he has a scratchy throat from all the gagging. We had special chicken flavored antibiotic sent to the house but even with the new flavor Ronnie couldn’t tolerate it. Vet said since he was better on just the Clindamycin don’t try and give him the other. Good thing I dye my hair-bet it is pure white now!

    1. Oh, my. You really have your hands full, but I’m guessing the payback is worth it. Why can’t they learn to tell us just where it hurts or what’s bothering them? You have to be something of a cat whisperer to figure it out. {{{{{{{maryqos adn hur furbebbehs}}}}}}}
